“If we can reduce emissions of methane, we can really help to slow global warming,” said Ryan McCarthy, a science adviser for the California Air Resources Board, which is drawing up rules to implement the new law.

Livestock are responsible for 14.5 percent of human-induced greenhouse gas emissions, with beef and dairy production accounting for the bulk of it, according to a 2013 United Nations report.

Since the passage of its landmark global warming law in 2006, California has been reducing carbon emissions from cars, trucks, homes and factories, while boosting production of renewable energy.

In the nation’s largest milk-producing state, the new law aims to reduce methane emissions from dairies and livestock operations to 40 percent below 2013 levels by 2030, McCarthy said. State officials are developing the regulations, which take effect in 2024.”

“CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. (KCRA) – A Citrus Heights man is in custody after police say he choked his infant in front of officers in the parking lot of a Walmart.

Police said Daniel Graf, 32, met his estranged wife in the store’s parking lot in Citrus Heights on Friday evening so he could see their 3-month-old child.

Graf and his estranged wife began arguing over child custody arrangements, and the woman called police, authorities said.

When officers arrived, they started speaking with Graf as he was holding the baby. During the conversation, Graf started strangling and choking the child, according to authorities.

One of the officers applied a department-approved sleeper hold on Graf, who went unconscious, police said. Officers said Graf continued to strangle the child as he was being rendered unconscious.

The infant was taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to recover, police said.

Graf was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide, causing a child to suffer physical pain and on an outstanding warrant.”

Google will build another six solar power plants in the U.S. – Computerworld

I had to share this as we need Google in Australia as the Government is doing nothing …

Computerworld – Google has announced plans to continue its rollout of solar energy plants in the U.S. with one of its larger investments to date: $80 million for six new facilities.

So far, Google has committed over $1 billion to wind and solar power plants that create clean energy and generate “attractive financial returns,” it said in a blog post.

The new plants, which will be built in California and Arizona, are expected to generate 160 megawatts (MW) of electricity, enough to power 17,000 typical U.S. homes. They are expected to be operational by early 2014.”

Hearst Castle …

Not come across this before so thought I would share.

“Hearst Castle is a National and California Historical Landmark mansion located on the Central Coast of CaliforniaUnited States. It was designed by architect Julia Morgan between 1919 and 1947 for newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, who died in 1951. In 1957, the Hearst Corporation donated the property to the state of California. Since that time it has been maintained as a state historic park where the estate, and its considerable collection of art and antiques, is open for public tours. Despite its location far from any urban center, the site attracts about one million visitors per year.

Hearst formally named the estate “La Cuesta Encantada” (“The Enchanted Hill”), but usually called it “the ranch”. Hearst Castle and grounds are also sometimes referred to as “San Simeon” without distinguishing between the Hearst property and the adjacent unincorporated area of the same name.” Wikipedia

First Phase Chief’s Blanket sets record at John Moran Auctioneers …

I had to share this I know you will love it.

Published on 11 Jul 2012

“This stunning Navajo First Phase Chief’s Wearing Blanket made headlines when it sold for 1.8 million dollars at John Moran Auctioneers‘ June 19th sale in Southern California, smashing the previous world record of $522,500 for a similar blanket. An example of the rarest type of the earliest phase of Navajo blankets, it emerged from obscurity when it was brought into Moran’s free appraisal clinic by a man whose family handed it down through the generations, casually using it around the house. The sale of this museum-quality treasure has dramatically changed his life, and made auction history.”
