About these ads

For all the ladies I know who drive alone …

“I had a flat tire on the highway yesterday; so, I pulled over, got out of the car and opened my trunk.

I took out my cardboard men, unfolded them and stood them at the rear of my car facing oncoming traffic. They look so lifelike you wouldn’t believe it!

Just as I had hoped, cars started slowing down looking at the men which made it much safer for me to work on the side of the road.

People honked and waved, and it wasn’t long before a police car pulled up behind me.

He wanted to know what the heck I was doing so I calmly explained that I was changing my flat. He told me he could see that, but demanded to know what the heck my cardboard men were doing standing at the rear of my car.

I couldn’t believe he didn’t know! So I told him …

Well, I explained to the angry Policeman …

They’re my Emergency Flashers!!!!

I go to court next week.

(Damn Police. No sense of humor.)”

A SERIES of world-famous saucy seaside postcards images is being relaunched today to mark their 100th anniversary.
Businessman Ian Wallace said he is hoping the classic cheeky cartoons, which could soon be appearing on everything from mouse mats to boxer shorts, will give everyone a light-hearted boost in times of economic gloom…

Mr Wallace, aged 63, bought the firm Bamforth & Co nine years ago and now owns the rights to more than 50,000 of the postcard images with their pneumatic women, henpecked husbands and voluptuous nurses.

In 1870 James Bamforth began his business in Holmfirth, near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire – a village now most famous for being the setting of the long running BBC comedy Last Of The Summer Wine.

He was a portrait photographer who later specialised in lantern slides. But it was the saucy postcards, launched in 1910, which sealed his firm`s reputation.

Mr Wallace said: “They always look good and they always make people smile.

“Maybe they`re not to everyone’s taste but if you can`t laugh at Bamforth postcards what can you laugh at?

“They are classic images which have really stood the test of time.”

Timber speed boats …

I started water skiing when I was eleven which is fifty years ago now. Of course boats were timber then with very few fibreglass yet in Australia. I have always maintained an affection for the beautiful timber boats of the time.

Have been collecting photos that I can find on my Pinterest Board “Wooden Boats“. This is a sample gallery of some collected so far …

Sir Thomas Herbert’s House, Pavement, York …

I really love old architecture and would like to explore this great old house …

“Across the road at the southern end of the Shambles lies this rather magnificent timber framed house, for which the earliest documentary evidence dates back to 1557, and which now carries the name of Sir Thomas Herbert, who was born in the house in 1606, and who went on to become a significant political figure at the time of the English Civil War.”

The property is in the care of the York Conservation Trust, and is currently in use as a shoe shop.

Oklahoma tornadoes …

I have been doing searches on YouTube for videos of the tornadoes in Oklahoma as it hard for me living in Australia to envisage these things. We get Cyclones which can be extremely destructive but I am amazed at the destruction that has happened in Oklahoma.

Just watch this video which I think gives you an idea of the power and fury that is unleashed …

.
Just search in YouTube for “Oklahoma tornado 2013″ and watch some of the other videos. It would be absolutely terrifying to experience it. I might add that the people who have taken these videos are crackers to use an Australian term.
